Totally asymmetric simple exclusion process

چکیده
Unlike equilibrium statistical mechanics non-equilibrium statistical mechanics (NESM) has no wellestablished framework. The totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) is one of the few models available that try to meet the challenge of describing NESM. Here TASEP is presented in its simplest version. Further two biological applications on mRNA translation and molecular motors are presented, justifying TASEP description and showing that simple models can capture general mechanisms at work. Finally the generalization to networks is sketched showing how TASEP can be extended.

Synchronization of kinks in the two-lane totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with open boundary conditions
We study the motion of kinks in a two-lane model of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with open boundaries. Once a lane change is allowed, the positions of the kinks become synchronized. We analytically study the motion of the kinks by a decoupled approximation. When we choose the lane change rate asymmetric, the difference between the positions of the kinks become zero, though th...
متن کاملTwo-Channel Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Processes
Totally asymmetric simple exclusion processes, consisting of two coupled parallel lattice chains with particles interacting with hard-core exclusion and moving along the channels and between them, are considered. In the limit of strong coupling between the channels, the particle currents, density profiles and a phase diagram are calculated exactly by mapping the system into an effective one-cha...
متن کاملSpectral gap of the totally asymmetric exclusion process at arbitrary filling
We calculate the spectral gap of the Markov matrix of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) on a ring of L sites with N particles. Our derivation is simple and self-contained and extends a previous calculation that was valid only for half-filling. We use a special property of the Bethe equations for TASEP to reformulate them as a one-body problem. Our method is closely related...
متن کاملThe stationary measure of a 2-type totally asymmetric exclusion process
We give a combinatorial description of the stationary measure for a totally asymmetric exclusion process (TASEP) with second class particles, on either Z or on the cycle ZN . The measure is the image by a simple operation of the uniform measure on some larger finite state space. This reveals a combinatorial structure at work behind several results on the TASEP with second class particles.
